Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I [am] the LORD your God. (Lev 19:4,NKJV)
From this verse, we are not turn anything, literally nothing, zero. St Paul retaliates the same;
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other God but one. (1Cor 8:4, NKJV).
Pay attention to where he says, We know that an idol is Nothing in this world. Anything can be an idol, there is no exemption.
As I type this out, am at the nail spa, thus the title, waiting on the queue for my turn. While waiting, I could help but hear a conversation between an attendant and the customer. They were talking about sports betting, how to win bets and why you don’t win them. Please note that in Kenya betting has become one of the highest income generators for so many people and has paid their bills and helped them live a comfortable life especially with the jackpots.
So here is the attendant’s story. On a particular Sunday, he was at the shop betting his money on soccer games for extra money. He placed four bets and lost. This did not discourage him, he later is two more times and lost again. Bear in mind the time it takes for an entire soccer match. After that, there was silence and ladies were just staring at him as I was still typing.
God has given us 24hours a day. How do we use them? Where is our attention at? Is it on Him or on worldly things like sports and money. These have become our idols in our lives.
Take a moment today, and ask yourself; Where is my attention? Is it on God or on your idols?
